Yup. I went there.
Bosco & I started this random Wednesday off trying to find a hike in the Seeley-Swan area but we were shut down 4 times. Twice for too much snow on the road to the trailhead and twice because of Forest Service shutdowns of the road due to 'soft road conditions.'
So I continued down the road in search of trails and ended up extending my drive to the Hungry Horse reservoir. A smidge out of the way, I know, but when one finds themselves leaving Montana soon, it's completely worth the gas on a day off.
I've always thought that late spring would be the perfect time to see the Glory Hole (good luck Googling that one if you don't know what I'm talking about) (wait, Mom, Dad, PLEASE, DO NOT Google 'glory hole'). I was sadly disappointed when I arrived and saw how far away the water was from flowing into this outflow.
It takes more than a dry glory hole to get me down on a beautiful sunny Montana spring day. Bosco & I jumped back in the Baja and down the road an additional 14 miles to Glacier.
Since most of the roads are still closed and dogs are not allowed on hiking trails here, Bosco & I basked in the rare warm spring sun on the dock of Lake McDonald while munching on cheese and crackers.
We finished the day by surprising my in-laws for dinner in Kalispell before chasing the sunset home.
